| Dr
Todd Lefkowitz is an experienced intraocular and
refractive surgeon who brings over 26 years of experience
to Nationwide Vision. Dr Lefkowitz is a New York
City native, who attended Queens College and then
New York University School of Medicine. After completing
an internship in Internal Medicine at Metropolitan
Hospital Center in New York, he trained in Ophthalmology
at the Georgetown University Hospital residency
program in Washington, DC. He was certified by the
American Board of Ophthalmology in 1982. Dr Lefkowitz
served in the US Air Force Medical Corps from 1981-1985,
most recently at Luke AFB; he was awarded the Air
Force Commendation medal for distinguished service.
Dr Lefkowitz is a fellow of the
American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of
the American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and
Refractive Surgeons. He is a member of the Arizona
Medical Association and the Arizona Ophthalmologic
Society. Dr Lefkowitz is the newest physician
member of the Arizona Medical Board, appointed
by Governor Janet Napolitano in 2007 for a five
year term.
Dr Lefkowitz is certified on the
three major LASIK platforms, VISX, NIDEK and Alcon
Ladarvision, and is Intralase certified. He also
is certified to perform NearVision CK (conductive
keratoplasty) for age-related near vision problems.
He has extensive training in medical retina problems
and glaucoma. In addition, Dr Lefkowitz is an
expert cataract surgeon, and is well versed in
the new refractive lens surgery and modern lens
implants. He is acknowledged as the Valley’s
leader in pterygium surgery and has performed
eyelid and eye muscle surgery for most of his
long and illustrious career.
Dr
Lefkowitz has practiced in both the HMO and private
practice settings before joining Nationwide Vision.
He speaks French, Spanish, German and Hebrew,
and knows a few phrases in several other languages.
He is a compassionate practitioner, and is well-respected
by patients and colleagues alike.
Dr Lefkowitz is married to Mindy and together
they have four children, three in college and
one still in high school. He has many and varied
interests, among them computers, travel, reading,
movies and classical music. He has been on the
board of the Physicians for the Phoenix Symphony.
Dr Lefkowitz was a three-game Jeopardy champion
in 1991, and has belonged to Mensa. He was elected
to Phi Beta Kappa in 1973.
